Institute for Global Ethics of Canada Appoints Executive Director

The Institute for Global Ethics of Canada (IGE Canada) is pleased to announce the appointment of Stacey Huget of Vancouver, British Columbia, as Executive Director.

Huget joins the Vancouver-based Institute after an extensive and varied career in corporate, non-profit, and government work, most recently as a special projects consultant with Literacy BC, where she authored the report of the Premier’s Advisory Panel on Literacy and undertook a year-long province-wide consultation on literacy and learning in BC

A 1981 “Most Distinguished Graduate” of the University of Regina, she worked in public-policy and survey-research positions in Saskatchewan and Manitoba before moving to a communications role in BC’s insurance industry in 1986. From 1987 to 1993 she was Vice President for Program Development at Uniglobe Travel (International), which at the time was the largest franchisor of retail travel agencies worldwide. Creating her own consulting practice in 1994, she specialized in facilitating dialogue, leading strategic organizational thinking, and undertaking issues-based marketing for large and small businesses, non-profit and industry associations, special interest groups, organized labour, and all three levels of government.

“We’re delighted that Stacey has agreed to join the Institute at this juncture,” said Peter Stickler, Chair of IGE Canada’s Board of Directors. “She brings exactly the combination of talents we need as we seek to make the Institute an engaging and far-reaching influence all across Canada.”

IGE Canada’s activities include character education through school curriculum, Ethical Fitness® Seminars for corporations and institutions, and public awareness activities across the country.

“The organization—its integrity, balance, and strategy—impressed me right away and its goals resonate deeply for me,” said Huget, whose appointment is effective immediately. “Issues of ethics occur with regularity in the personal lives, careers, and social relationships of Canadians, and I look forward to helping us all do a better job of weighing alternatives, making intelligent, heartfelt, and courageous choices, and handling the consequences of these decisions with grace and optimism.”

IGE Canada was originally incorporated as a registered Canadian charity in 1997, opening its office in Toronto in 2000 and relocating to Vancouver in 2005. It operates as an affiliate of the Institute for Global Ethics in Camden, Maine, USA, founded in 1990 by Dr. Rushworth M. Kidder. The Institute has another affiliate, the Institute for Global Ethics UK Trust, headquartered in London, England, as well as an office in New York. A nonprofit, nonpartisan, and nonsectarian organization, the Institute in its global work seeks to promote ethical behaviour in individuals, institutions, and nations through research, public discourse, and practical action.

With a global staff of about 20, it is supported by 1,400 members, grants from foundations and government entities, and revenue from an extensive array of services relating to a variety of training tools that include books, education curricula, DVDs and CD-ROM training courses, speaking engagements, workshops, and consulting. IGE Canada’s Board of Directors includes Ms. Michella Frosch (West Vancouver, BC), Ms. Rosalind John (Oakville, Ontario), Mr. Chris Kelly (Vancouver, BC), Dr. Rushworth M. Kidder (Camden, Maine, USA), and Mr. Peter Stickler (Vancouver, BC). Ms. Mary Margaret Young (Vancouver, BC) was a key member of the IGE Canada Board until her sudden passing in December 2005.
