Who We Are and What We Do
Incorporated as a registered charity in 1997, IGE Canada is an independent, non-sectarian, and non-partisan organization. Originally based in Toronto, the head office was relocated to Vancouver in 2005.
IGE Canada’s mission is:
To promote ethical behaviour among Canadians and our institutions (through research, public discourse, and practical action) so that shared moral values increasingly shape our relationships, determine our decisions, and guide our actions both nationally and globally
Specifically, IGE Canada promotes a clear framework for moral reasoning and ethical decisionmaking: that is, a common language, commitment, and approach for exploring and resolving complex ethical issues. Its work includes:
- Instruction and Consultation: offering instruction and consultation around the Ethical Fitness® framework – through public seminars and workshops; character education in the school system; and consultation with organizations in the private, public, and non-profit sectors
- Research and Awareness: gathering and analyzing trends, disseminating information, and developing new knowledge about global ethics – including core values, evolving attitudes, and practical resolutions of complex "right vs. right" dilemmas
- Dialogue and Networking: facilitating dialogue among Canadian industry, government, education, and media about the relevance, consequence, and practice of ethical decisionmaking
