Betty BarkerBetty Barker, was one of the first women in her field—space planning—she designed workspaces for the World Trade Center in New York and the FAA headquarters building in Washington. Retiring from her career after 35 years, she moved to Palm Desert, California, where her work in philanthropy is legendary.

 

David HurwittDavid F. Hurwitt, (Chairman, Strategic Planning Committee) is a marketing and management expert who spent 26 years at General Foods Corporation, is president of Renaissance Executive Forums in Connecticut and serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations.

 

Paul McAuliffe, (Board Chairman), formerly Chief Ethics Officer at BD (Becton, Dickinson & Co.), is Executive Director of the Federal Reserve Employee Benefits System, where he oversees employee benefits and related compensation programs for 24,000 employees and 10,000 retirees of the Federal Reserve System.

 

Charles S. "Tuck" Rainwater, (Board Secretary) is the Director of Government and Community Relations for Comcast in Vermont and western New Hampshire, where he is responsible for interacting with state and local officials, overseeing regulatory activities, and coordinating the company's community investment work. Prior to Comcast, he was with a law firm in Montpelier, VT, specializing in    government affairs, public relations, and political consulting. He serves on several nonprofit and community boards.

Alvin SmithAlvin A. Smith, is president of AA Smith & Associates, a New York based management consulting firm. Alvin is nationally known for his twenty years of leadership at Avon Products where he was instrumental in developing leading edge diversity management strategies. He is a member of the Advisory Council for the Black Achievers in Industry Council for the Harlem YMCA, a member of the Advisory Board of Touro College Medical School and is an American Management Association (AMA) certified trainer.

Jennifer C. Smucker resides near Orville, Ohio, home of the J.M. Smucker Company. She is a founding member of the Steering Committee of Heartland Education Community, Inc., an educational initiative with an emphasis on ethics and values. Heartland serves as a life-long learning network to unite schools, community, churches and libraries. She is a seasoned presenter of     the Institute’s educational materials.

Deborah S. Steckler (Chairman, Finance Committee) is a former Associate Staff for the Appropriations Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives and currently serves on the Board of the Long Ridge School in Connecticut as well as the Board of Creative Connections, a non-profit international cultural exchange organization founded and headed by her husband, Alan.

 

Cole WilburColburn S. Wilbur is a trustee, past president, and past CEO of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. Previous experience includes service as CEO of the Sierra Club Foundation, international banking, and computer service.

 

Randy WilliamsEllen (Randy) Williams (Board Treasurer) is Managing Director of Redmond, Williams & Associates, LLC, a firm that assists clients in the corporate, non-profit, academic, and governmental sectors with developing processes for risk mitigation, ethics, asset protection and governance. Prior to RWA, she was with American Express for 24 years, most recently as their global Corporate Ombudsperson.

 

Marcia L. Worthing (Chairman, Board Affairs Committee) is executive vice president of Mullin & Associates, an outplacement and executive coaching firm located in New York City, and was formerly the senior vice president of human resources and corporate affairs for Avon Products.

 

Michael E. Zychinski is the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer for the 50,000 U.S. personnel of Deloitte. Along with his leadership and client service accomplishments, Mike has been actively involved with his community. He has served on the boards of numerous not-for-profit organizations including the Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, and the United Way.

David J. Anable, is the recently-retired president of the International Center for Journalists, a Washington-based nonprofit organization working with professional journalists worldwide; former managing editor of The Christian Science Monitor; and former professor of journalism at Boston University.

Theodore J. Gordon is founder and chairman of The Futures Group, a large management consulting firm, and a senior research fellow of the Millennium Project for the American Council of the United Nations University. He is also former chief engineer for the Saturn program at McDonnell Douglas.

Anne E. D. Kidder is a former academic counselor with a long career of ministerial work, writing, child-raising, and volunteer leadership activities for community, church, arts, and environmental nonprofits.

Philip L. Smith, is the managing partner of Riven Rock Holding, in Penn Valley, California, with holdings in several companies. His previous experience includes work in the aerospace and electrical products industries, among others.

James K. Baker (Columbus, Indiana), retired vice chairman of Arvin Industries, Inc., and chairman (1991) of U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Washington, D.C.

Rodrigo Botero (Cambridge, Massachusetts), founder of the Foundation for Higher Education and Development in Bogota, former finance minister of Colombia, and former Ford Foundation trustee.

John Gibson (Houston, Texas), Executive Chairman and CEO of Paradigm Geophysical, is a supporter of the Houston-based Small Steps Nurturing Center involving the delivery of education to preschool children, is on an advisory board at Indiana University.

Richard A. Goldsby (Amherst, Massachusetts), Simpson Professor of Biology at Amherst College and author of several books on cells, immunology, and race.

Monica Jimnez de Barros (Santiago, Chile), executive director of PARTICIPA, professor of human rights at the Catholic University of Chile, and former member of the Pontifical Council on Justice and Peace.

The Hon. James A. Joseph (Durham, North Carolina), former U.S. ambassador to South Africa, former president and CEO of the Council on Foundations, former president of the Cummins Engine Foundation, and former undersecretary of the Department of the Interior in the Carter administration, now at Duke University and the University of South Africa.

Chris McGoff (Silver Spring, Maryland) V.P and Director at SRA Strategic Consulting, holds an MS in industrial engineering from Texas Tech University and a BS in biophysical chemistry from the University of Scranton, founding member of the Society of Information Management Institute’s Working Group on Enhancing Global Collaborative Through Technology.

Martha Minow (Cambridge, Massachusetts), Harvard Law School professor and author of Making All the Difference: Inclusion, Exclusion and American Law, chosen as an Outstanding Book by the Gustavus Myers Center for the Study of Human Rights in the United States.

George D. Moffett (St. Paul, Minnesota), past president, Principia College, former diplomatic correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor, and author of the book Critical Masses: The Global Population Challenge.

Randa M. Slim, manager of Middle East Programs for RESOLVE in Washington, DC; associate at the Charles F. Kettering Foundation; visiting adjunct professor at American University of Beirut, Lebanon; and former director of the National Conference on Peacemaking and Conflict Resolution.

Timothy P. Smucker (Orrville, Ohio) is the co-CEO of The J. M. Smucker Company.

Katharine Whitehorn (London, England), long-time columnist for the Observer and author of several books on children and medicine.
