Our four-hour, highly interactive workshop helps teachers, staff and administrators build awareness about why ethics matters, come together around their core ethical values and their common purpose in schools, and consider ways to forward ethics across their school culture.
Objectives:
Session Overview:
Session I: Building Ethical Awareness
During this session of the workshop, participants will (1) discuss ways that our “ethical barometer” has changed over time, and (2) discuss the resources and challenges for young people and schools in the 21st century.
Session II: Defining Common Ground
During this session of the workshop, participants will (1) determine the core ethical values they share, and compare this to IGE’s research on shared values from around the world, (2) identify specific practices to uphold these values in action, and (3) identify specific practices to uphold these values in action
Session III: Exploring Schools of Integrity
During this session of the workshop, participants will (1) explore the Institute for Global Ethics’ “Schools of Integrity” research, drawn from schools known for their successful balance of academic rigor and attention to the ethical development of young people, (2) discuss results from the Hallmarks of a School of Integrity Rubric, and explore the strengths and needs this exercise reveals, and (3) discuss next steps for making sure the hidden curriculum aligns with the vision and values of the school community.
