Rockland, Maine (www.globalethics.org)— In the fall 2009 online issue of Independent School (IS) magazine, Amber Kruk, Associate Director of Education at the Institute for Global Ethics (IGE), shares an ethical dilemma faced by two independent school administrators. The article, “Support the Growth of an Individual Student or Build the Trust of the Community,” is the fifth article in the IS’ series, “The Ethical School.”

The articles presented in this series share real dilemmas, told to the author by administrators at independent schools. Kruk and other authors use IGE’s ethical-decision making model to frame each dilemma for consideration by others faced with similar tough leadership choices.

The Ethical School series, featured in the past four issues the IS printed publication, makes its “online exclusives” debut. Of this change, Kruk says, “We couldn’t be more excited to have our article as part of the online publication. This shift in delivery squares perfectly with our own marketing and publishing efforts; more and more we are trying to put content in the hands of readers in the most share-friendly ways.”

A feature of the IS’ “online exclusives” is the ShareThis application which enables readers to share content across a variety of new social media networks. Readers are also encouraged to share comments and their own dilemmas with the editorial staff at IS by email for possible future publication.

The Institute for Global Ethics is a nonpartisan, nonsectarian 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting ethical behavior in individuals, and cultures of integrity in institutions and nations through research, public discourse and practical action. Clients include corporations, government entities, academic institutions and nonprofit organizations in the United States and abroad.

Independent School, published by the National Association of Independent Schools, is an open forum for exchange of information about elementary and secondary education in general, and independent schools in particular.
