Editor’s Note: Open for Comments
Oct 26th, 2009 • Posted in: Letters From ReadersWe’re happy to let you know that in response to requests from many readers, we’ve activated Ethics Newsline’s comment-box function. You now may enter your views about commentaries and news items without leaving our site.
A few guidelines and suggestions:
- At this point, comments can be made only from single-article pages, not from the full version of the weekly edition. (We’re working on that.) For now, though, if something piques your interest and you’d like to comment, just click on the article’s headline to go to its solo view and post your comment.
- When there are several comments after an article, be sure you scroll down to the end of the page; that’s where you’ll find the comment box for entering your text.
- Your name and email address are required. Your name will be published with your comment, but your email address will remain private. (We need your email address in case it’s necessary to verify or clarify something you’ve written.)
- We will screen comments to eliminate inappropriate language, defamatory content, and spam. Unfortunately, there are many automated programs that hack comment boxes and insert advertising, so we have to be vigilant about that. Inappropriate comments will be blocked in their entirety.
- Because of legal issues relating to the publication of reader views, Newsline will not edit your comments for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and content.
- Briefer is generally better. Most readers tend to move their attention from lengthy responses, so it’s a good idea to keep your entries short and focused.
Thanks for reading Ethics Newsline — and helping to create a community for thoughtful analysis of today’s top ethics issues. Happy reading … and commenting!

I can’t help but wonder why the subject of the ethical foundation of the healthcare debate has not received more attention and discussion in the Ethics Newsline.
