Governments love the accretion of power. Having failed to terrify the citizenry with prophecies and “studies” that calamity and pandemic were near, from acid rain, from HIV, from second hand smoke, and from so many other threats, none of which resulted in the degree of destruction promised by governments. Now, these power-mad “leaders” have the perfect vehicle, one that can’t be disproved for over a century: Man-caused global warming. Their solution: More taxes, more power in the public sector, less in the private, and a casting aside of liberty and the pursuit of happiness. No matter that their fundamental thesis can’t be proven, is disputed by intellects equal and greater than the proponents, and that it flies in the face of observation and common sense. Where accretion of power is at stake, governments will go to any length to achieve it. Also, note the proof of irrelevance in the Pew study by the conclusion that China and India favor the environment over industry. Laughable.
Whether you call it global warming, Gore warming, climate change, etc. to believe that there is ‘man-caused global warming” is to believe in the “Audacity of Human Arrogance” taken to stratospheric levels. For the past 35 years, I have worked in the environmental arena and witnessed numerous attempts by environmental Marxists to gain control of everyone’s lives. With “man-caused global warming” these extremists may have found the perfect storm. These environmental Marxists have no interest whatsoever in saving the earth, the environment is merely the vehicle to achieve their end game – to gain Power over and Control of all.
In addition to seeking power, as Steven Cogswell describes, these so called climate researchers have received significant sums of money, much of which in the form of taxpayer dollars, both here and abroad. Frankly, Michael Mann and Phil Jones, of ClimateGate fame, should be first to be prosecuted for criminal tax fraud. Worse yet, their attitude of “if I don’t get caught, I didn’t break any laws or ethics codes” seems to have become the mantra of many contemporary scientists, not to mention society as a whole. The scientific community, regardless of its area of interests, better wake up and realize, if this attitude persists the entire scientific community will be painted with the same brush of not being trusted and unethical. Mann and Jones are no better than Bernie Madoff; however, their unethical behavior has the potential to severely impact far more people than Madoff’s ponzi scheme.
It will be interesting to see how supportive people are for “protecting the environment” when they have to fork over 30 to 50% of their income to supposedly save the earth, especially in countries whose citizens have nothing to fork over much less any desire to diminish their life styles. If this agenda is pushed through, prepare yourself for the coming revolution.
These are pretty scary comments (from “Steven” and “Jim”) if they are genuine. I would have expected readers of IGE to be better informed. More likely, perhaps, is that this is yet another instance of industry sponsored “flogging” (fake blogging).
