Moral Courage and Awakening Global Action:

Institute for Global Ethics to be represented at Global Conference in Bali, Indonesia

CAMDEN, ME, USA – Moral courage, a topic as large as its name, is scheduled to be featured by Donald Proffit, Ethical Literacy® Coach for the Institute for Global Ethics (IGE), in a three-hour session on Saturday, August 4, 2007, at the Bali Institute for Global Renewal’s conference on Awakening Global Action, www.baliinstitute.org.

Dr. Rushworth Kidder, IGE founder and president, describes moral courage: “Moral courage lifts values from the theoretical to the practical and carries us beyond ethical reasoning into principled action. Without moral courage, our brightest virtues rust from lack of use. With it, we build piece by piece a more ethical world.” Described more fully in his text, Moral Courage (HarperCollins, 2005), Dr. Kidder’s synthesis of key concepts related to moral courage has given Proffit the tools needed to hold this interactive session, gathering together a group of hundreds spanning 40 countries. The Bali Institute aims to bridge the gap between personal desires for change and an actual implementation plan for committed action.  

Proffit, president of Proffit Projects, LLC, www.proffitprojects.com, located in Trenton, NJ, began his work with the Institute for Global Ethics in 1999, while principal at Lawrence High School, located between Trenton, and Princeton, New Jersey.  After training with IGE, he began a student-led ethics team and effectively transformed the school’s culture by focusing on core ethical values and ethical decision making.  After retiring last year, Proffit became the first Ethical Literacy® Coach for IGE.
